Chris P. Bacon

Chris P. Bacon, Kristina Tracy, Len Lucero

I just finished reading this lovely book to my kids, and they loved it. The story is about a piglet that was born without the use of his hind legs and has a little wheelchair that helps him get around. Based on true events, we had watched a youtube video of this little guy and were charmed instantly. What I really liked best about this book, is that it lets children know that even if you are a little different from others, you can still accomplish big things and be an inspiration to others!

Tune In

Tune In, by Sonia Choquette

This is a pretty decent book if you are looking for ways to get more "in tune" with spirit and the flow of the universe. She describes several steps you can take on a daily basis to get more in alignment with your spiritual energy and intuition. Each chapter she also poses some questions, and asks that you write down your answers. Skeptical of this at first, I went ahead and gave it a try. Surprisingly, I found it did help me identify parts of my life where I was feeling out of balance, and it made me take an honest look at what I could improve upon in my life to achieve balance. I do think, if I continue with some of the suggestions and exercises she provides that I can become better at recognizing "that little voice inside", and make better spirit guided decisions that will help me be more at peace in my life.

Assertiveness for Earth Angels

Assertiveness for Earth Angels, Doreen Virtue

This was the first book I have ever read by Doreen Virtue, and as I read, each chapter seemed to be a reflection of myself. I strongly identified with her description of an "Earth Angel" (one who is highly sensitive, with an innocent outlook on life, and believes in God's loving power), and found that I seemed to fall into the many pitfalls that these Earth Angels suffer.

I am too darn nice for my own good. With each page, I found myself thinking "Yep, that's me." or "Yep, I do that too!" I am a people-pleaser. I feel that I can't be happy unless everyone else around me is happy too, and when I can't make everyone happy - I get frustrated and feel like there is something wrong with me. This book was like a journey of self discovery, where I was recognizing all the unhealthy patterns I am prone to fall into.

In each chapter, Doreen touches on subjects such as recognizing and handling toxic relationships, how to stop people-pleasing, how to be assertive with a strong-willed child, and be assertive with authority figures in a non-aggressive and more loving way. She also addresses on how important it is for us to love ourselves, and to take care of ourselves so we can have more time to do the things that are important for us.

If you're too nice for your own good, and think it's time to take your power back and stand up for yourself and your feelings - I'd say give this book a read. :)
